Here are our unofficial ATP world rankings, based on the combined sum of service hold and opponent break percentages for the whole of 2013. The top players aren’t hugely different – although the lower ranked players show some surprises…
Those players with a negative difference (TennisRatings ranking is better than their world ranking) may well show players that are under-rated in the betting market, and therefore those with a high positive difference (indicating their world ranking flatters their stats) may well be worth opposing in the future…
There are several caveats:-
1 – These are all-surface hold/break stats. It goes without saying that some players are better on different surfaces. The relevant surface stats, along with projected holds (based on opponent quality, court speed and other factors) for each player daily and much more can be found via the Tier One and Tier Two daily spreadsheets.
2 – Nicolas Mahut’s stats are flattered by playing lots of 250 events and missed the clay season which probably would have reduced his stats.
3 – Several players had long lay-offs which affected their world ranking. Cilic, Monfils & Troicki are notable in this respect.
